STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

There’s a witch brooming
about town with a handful
of toasted pecans and pockets
full of purple sand. I don’t
know the significance of these
items, but the police believe
she uses them to lure prey.
What prey? I don’t know that
either. I’m not sure why there’s
such a fuss about her. It’s not like
anyone has died. All the children
have been accounted for. People
around here just have a desire
to persecute. First it was the three-
legged puppies, then the gorgeous
Southern girls who were into S&M,
and then those robots who gave me
a good deal on my first spaceship.
